Drive off the demons with a Balkan Halloween celebration at Hungarian House, featuring the golden lips of ZLATNE USTE brass band & the brazen lungs of the ZAGNUT CIRKUS ORKESTAR! This benefit for the Hungarian House, a cultural center on the Upper East Side, will take place on Friday, October 31st from 8pm until the wee hours of the morning at 213 East 82nd St at 3rd Ave, Manhattan. The requested donation is $15, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Evil spirits of repression run the other way when they hear the hypnotic rhythms, haunting hornlines & brilliant freestyle improvisations of Balkan brass band music from the Macedonian, Bulgarian, Serbian, Greek & Romany (Gypsy) traditions. Masked dancers spiral around the band, lovers meet & part, children run through the crowd, elders lead the line, & mysterious strangers confer without fear of being overheard. Wear a costume, bring your own bottle, & be ready to dance! This is a benefit for Hungarian House, which hosts multicultural musical events throughout the year. Refreshments will be served.

ZLATNE USTE (Golden Lips) http://www.zagnutcirkus.com is a two-accordioned, many-brassed, rhyhmically driven, multiply-talented ensemble from Brooklyn & beyond. Their Halloween conjurations will feature the bewitching voice of Jodi Hewat and conjure up special guest apparitions of trumpeters Frank London & Ben Holmes, along with Matthew Fass (accordion), Jeanette Lewicki (accordion), Timothy Quigley (drums), Greg Squared (reeds), and George Rush (tuba).
