Back in the 1930s, one of the most popular radio programs was Yiddish
Melodies in Swing on New York's WHN. Yiddish Melodies in Swing lasted
nearly two decades, outliving swing, the golden age of radio, and the
popularity of Yiddish culture itself. The program's orchestra, led by
Sam Medoff, and featuring Dave Tarras, The Barry Sisters, and Jan
Bart, among others, was a pioneer in the mingling of old and new
sounds. In Return of the Yiddish Swingtette, today's top performers,
including Aaron Alexander, Art Bailey, Joanne Borts, Greg Wall and
others, recreate the swinging sounds of the historic radio show.
