David (trumpet & vocals) & Roula (vocals, qanun and persuccion), partners in music and life, bring together worlds as they play Roma, Arabic and Jewish music along with David's original world jazz compositions. David is known as the leader of the Flying Bulgar Klezmer Band, the Odessa/Havana project, and his eponymous jazz ensemble. Between them, these projects have been nominated for 5 JUNOs, won one, and won a Canadian Folk Music Award. Roula has for many years been known as one of the city's most soulful Middle Eastern dancers, and has more recently stepped out as a lead vocalist, with Nomadica, her own Arabic project, and (this week) as a guest soloist at Soundstream's Koerner Hall concert. For this Musideum gig, David & Roula are accompanied by three up-and-comers, Demetri Petsalakis, oud & guitar, R.J. Satchithnanthan bass & trombone and Jaash Singh, percussion.
