"Republic of Dreams", takes the magic realism writings and imaginings of WWII-era Polish-Jewish artist Bruno Schulz (1892-1942), adapting his lush, magical and sometimes erotic drawings to the stage. Using the theatre's signature style of physicality, imagery, puppetry, live instrumental and choral music, Double Edge deeply explores Schulz' powerful prose and life, as well as his banal death at the hands of a jealous Nazi, to create an unforgettable journey through the human experience in the modern world. "Republic of Dreams" is conceived and directed by Stacy Klien.

Double Edge Theatre, based in Ashfield, MA, is a creator of dynamic and visually stunning theater pieces. It has a unique approach, by establishing a home "The Farm" where the artist can practice, receive training, research and conduct cultural exchanges with other artists. Double Edge Theatre is widely renowned for long-term collaborations, classic literature adaptations, and original theater performances.

If you would like to arrange a group of students to see this production, please contact Kiku Sakai at 212-254-6468. This is a great opportunity for students of various majors such as Art, Theatre, Slavic and Jewish Studies and Literature to explore the culture and history of the early 20th Century in Poland. Double Edge Theatre would be happy to give your students a post-performance discussion on the production. Our student rate is $15. Please share this information with your colleague.

About Danny, Gidi & Friends

Two of the most influential performers on the Israeli cultural scene, Danny Sanderson and Gidi Gov are both legendary and contemporary pop icons. They are founding members of the amazing band Kaveret/Poogy, dubbed “the Beatles of Israel” and a top concert ticket-seller for over 25 years and through five reunions. Together, Gidi and Danny also formed the groups Gazoz and Doda, both of which are considered among the cornerstones of Israeli rock music.

Danny and Gidi have had impressive solo recording careers, and succeeded in other media, such as authoring books, acting in theater and film productions, and on Israeli television as musicians, comedians, and hosts.

In the North American tour of “Danny, Gidi & Friends”, Gov and Sanderson, with guest artists Alon Olearchik, and Ephraim Shamir (original members of Kaveret), Karen Malka, Shay Wetzer, Roy Suarez and Illil Pazel will perform the greatest hits of Kaveret/Poogy, Gazoz and Doda as well as their solo repertoires. Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to enjoy some of Israel’s best known and most beloved songs performed by legends in an evening laced with humor and melody.

Concert to Honor Holocaust Victims and Survivors, Brookline, MA, Mar 18

I'm proud to invite you to our March 18th concert entitled "Musik Macht Frei" (music makes you free) that explores the role of music in the survival of the human spirit under the crushing barbarity of the Nazi concentration camps. This concert includes stories of historic performances, archival images and survivor accounts presented to the accompaniment of music performed and/or composed by prisoners. From small choirs to fully
staged operas, this music—making took place against the unlikely backdrop of the camps, both in secret or with the consent of the Nazi officials. I have found this music to be hauntingly beautiful and inspiring and I look forward to sharing it with you.

Please join me, Hinda Goodstein, and the Brookline Chorus in celebration of the human spirit and in remembrance of these terrifying events.
