Celebrated as one of the greatest living klezmer clarinetists today, Joel Rubin joins Veretski Pass in a brand new program of rare music from the repertoires of the pre-World War II Polish klezmorim. It will feature hitherto unrecorded gems that slide effortlessly between delicately nuanced nigunim (wordless melodies) to raucous village dances. His momentous reunion with the members of Veretski Pass is the first in the Bay Area in twenty years and promises to be a landmark event.

Pico Union Project, the burgeoning Los Angeles nonprofit committed to cross-cultural collaboration, announced that acclaimed Jewish Culture Revival Ensemble, MOSTLY KOSHER, will headline a special performance of music and theater on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 8:00pm at its historic downtown Los Angeles venue to celebrate the release of their debut CD. The ensemble’s musical stylings will be complemented by an opening performance by Mexican-American chanteuse, ZADA, and World Music trio, Triumph of the Egg.
Mostly Kosher is known in Southern California as the next generation of Jewish Culture Revival Ensembles. Directed by the multi-talented clarinetist, pianist and singer Leeav Sofer, Mostly Kosher is already making a name in the world
music and klezmer communities. Leeav is joined by Janice “Rachele the Matchmaker” Mautner Markham on violin and shtick, as well as Casey Solow, Mike King, Michael Bolger, Adam Levy and Eric Hagstrom. From their standing-room-only performance at the Orange County Yiddish Festival to their exuberant performances at the Skirball Cultural Center, the John Anson Ford Theater and the Autry Museum, Mostly Kosher is taking the World Music and Jewish community by storm. Band leader Leeav Sofer has expanded his artistry to composer and arranger as Mostly Kosher performs his renditions on this traditional music. “It’s very exciting to
take the Klezmer and Yiddish classics and give them a unique feel, from Latin Jazz to Afro-Cuban, even adding a Hip-Hop rhythm,” says Sofer. “We often include South American Ladino music in our program, as well as Yiddish tangos with a
French flare. Jewish music is global, is multi-cultural, and we want our music to reflect that.”
