In honor of Jewish Book Month, Montreal's Jewish Public Library (JPL) presents: J.I. Segal Awards Gala 2014 Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 7:30 p.m Jewish Public Library 5151 Côte Ste-Catherine Road, Montreal, QC, Canada Free admission. The Gala will honour the winners of awards in various categories for their creative work on Jewish themes and their contributions to Jewish Education. These prestigious awards are handed out biennially and were established in 1968 to honour the memory of the great Canadian Yiddish poet, J.I. Segal. This year's gala also commemorates the 60th anniversary of J.I. Segal's passing. Books and videos will be on sale. Free outdoor parking available at the YM-YWHA. This year's winners are: Mona Elaine Adilman English Fiction and Poetry Award on a Jewish Theme: The Crooked Maid by Dan Vyleta Shulamis Yelin French Literature Award on a Jewish Theme: Vieillesse et Engendrements by Perla Serfaty Garzon Rosa and the late David Finestone Canadian Jewish Studies Award for Best Book in English or French: Joe Salsberg: A Life of Commitment by Gerald Tulchinsky Dr. Hirsch & Dvora Rosenfeld Award for Yiddish & Hebrew Literature: Lamed-Vovnikes Fun Mayn Zikorn by Boris Sandler Translation Award for a Book on a Jewish Theme: The First Jews in North America by Denis Vageois. Translated by Käthe Roth Sara and Irwin Tauben English Non-Fiction Award on a Jewish Theme: Moynihan's Moment: America's Fight Against Zionism as Racism by Gil Troy Michael Moskovitz Award for a Film on a Jewish Theme: Beautifully Broken by Vladimir Kabelik Azrieli Institute Award for Best Book in Israel Studies in English or French Israel: A History by Anita Shapira Yaacov Zipper Award in Education: Not awarded
