A new collaboration, Goyfriend, between celebrated Latvian singer Sasha Lurje and Brooklyn-based klezmer band Litvakus, offers a unique window into the dialogue between Jewish, Slavic and Baltic cultures. This diverse project explores the image of the Jews and their representations in the folk culture of their neighbors over 600 years of common history.

KlezCalifornia Klezmer workshop & jam.

Taught by Dmitri Gaskin, this workshop will include learning tunes with authentic klezmer style, and end with a traditional jam. No klezmer experience needed (but it doesn't hurt!). Must be at least intermediate level on your instrument. Mute required if you are a brass player. Optional: recording device. To get a head start, check out sheet music and/or sound files in advance.
