Glenn Dickson, W. Medford, MA, Apr 3

I am doing another of my Clarinetrics performances, this time in a
double-bill with the very excellent Oen Kennedy. It will be at the
Congregational Church of West Medford, Saturday, April 3, at 8:00pm. The
church is located at 400 High St., West Medford and admission is by
donation. Call me at 781-648-4282 for information. The Labyrinth will be
open for walking or you can just listen to the music which will be
meditative but an unusual sort of meditative. Oen will not be doing his
regular singer-songwriter show but a set of meditative music on piano,
tongue drum, bells, maybe some singing and guitar. Who knows what the muse
will bring? I will be playing my clarinet with electronics, ala Robert
Fripp. Hopefully Oen and I will also play together. It will be a very
unique evening. Please come.
I will print some background info below in case you are interested in more.
Peace,
Glenn Dickson

A découvrir absolument !

Indie songtress Clare Burson will be embarking on a headlining tour this December in support of Silver and Ash, her new album released on Rounder September 14. Silver and Ash is a concept album that imagines Burson's maternal grandmother's life in Europe, from before her birth in 1919 to her escape from Germany in 1938. It also explores Burson's own struggles with rupture, silence, guilt, empathy, and continuity. Burson visited her childhood home in Memphis, Tennessee, where she interviewed her grandmothers, and ventured to the homes of her ancestors in Germany, Latvia, Ukraine and Lithuania.

Concert to Benefit Japan Earthquake Relief

More than a dozen innovative artists at the intersection of indie rock, contemporary jazz, and avant-garde performance will come together at Miller Theatre to present a benefit concert to support recovery efforts in Japan. “The tragedy and devastation is really overwhelming,” says John Zorn, who has organized and will host the evening. “I’ve always felt a strong personal connection to Japan, and I’m just glad to be able to do my part to help. It should be an amazing night.”

The lineup includes feature performances by musician and artist Yoko Ono, and her son Sean Lennon; Japanese-American indie duo Cibo Matto; and the influential band Sonic Youth. Vocalist Mike Patton will appear as a special guest, and Mephista, Marc Ribot, Uri Caine, and John Zorn’s Aleph Trio will also play short sets.

Both the performers and the theater are donating their services, ensuring that 100% of proceeds from ticket sales will go to benefit the victims of the earthquake and tsunami that hit near Sendai on March 11. Funds will be donated to the Japan Society’s Earthquake Relief Fund.

MazalTHE ELECTRO JUDEO DANCE PARTY: MAZAL (AMERICAN DEBUT) AND STEREO SINAI

Thu, 7 Mar 2013, 8:30pm

Johnny D's
17 Holland St.
Somerville, MA, MA

Boston Jewish Music FestivalMaking their American debut, France's Mazal combines centuries-old Sephardic songs and chants with today's electronic sampling and dance beats. What happens when the ancient music of exiles meets the electronic rhythms of today? The dance floor fills up!
Opening for Mazal, Stereo Sinai's signature sound is "Biblegum pop," a heretical combination of ancient, holy tongues with blasphemous backbeats and synthesized pop melodies. If Gwen Stefani and Will.i.am had been on the mountain with Moses, they would have come down sounding a lot like Stereo Sinai.

This show will be radically different from anything I’ve performed before. Why? Because it will be an Electronic Dance Music party! I will be performing with DJ Matt FX of Strongbros (https://www.facebook.com/Strongbros) who will create dance-beats along with my baritone sax, creating an improvised set of body-shaking music. The show will also feature some of my favorite NYC musicians!

Score: East and West - silent film with live music

Thursday 13th March 7.30pm
JW3,
341-351 Finchley Road,
London, NW3 6ET
Doors open 7.30pm.

Lemez Lovas (Oi Va Voi, Shtetl Superstars, Yiddish Twist Orchestra), directs musicians Moshikop Yaniv Fridel and Rohan Kriwaczek in an irreverent live performance of a score for East and West, especially prepared for the JW3.

In Sidney M. Goldin and Ivan Abramson's silent movie (1923), streetwise New Yorker Mollie (Molly Picon) travels to her demure cousin's wedding in a traditional Polish shtetl. Lovas, Moshikop and Kriwaczek's cheeky new score takes us from traditional klezmer to contemporary electronica, from liturgical melancholy to party pop kitsch and from vaudeville to breakbeat. As love blossoms between East and West, and the musical narrative unfolds, traditional and modern worlds are brought into collision.
