Brooklyn's latest and greatest music and entertainment space, Brooklyn Bowl, will be hosting their first annual holiday party and music festival on Thursday, Dec. 24th. The night will feature an eclectic array of well known "Bands of the Tribe" to inspire and entertain the 600 capacity crowd. Tickets will be 12 dollars online and 15 at the door. In line with the overall holiday season of giving that includes the Jewish holiday of Chanukah, we are offering 8 dollar tickets online through the first night of Chanukah, Friday Dec. 11, 2009. We expect to be sold out by this date. The show will be 18+ and will feature Bowling Specials, drink specials, surprise musical guests, and an array of menus from local Kosher restaurants, to order from. The two acts that will highlight the evening are Israeli rockers Days Like Months and Pey Dalid, [the later the original band of Hasidic Reggae Star Matisyahu ] who will be having their long awaited CD release party.
NEW YORK, NY – On Wednesday, November 11, 2009, Jewish and Muslim artists from the Tug of War Tour and Shemspeed will come together at New York’s SOBs at the Hip Hop Sulha. Performers include Israeli and Iranian rap duo Most Hated, DeScribe, spoken word artist Tahani Salah, beat boxer J. Stone, Dash Speaks, TJ Di Hitmaker, NSR and a special DJ set by Electro Morocco.
Founded by American-Israeli producer, Diwon, The Hip Hop Sulha reinvents the concept of the traditional Arab sulha (reconciliation) by bringing leading Jewish and Muslim hip-hop musicians together to celebrate peace and religious tolerance via the performing arts. In the past, the series has hosted Hadag Nachash, Saz, Sagol 59, and DJ Spooky to name a few. This evening will feature Chassidic Hip Hop, Reggae, and R&B, artist, DeScribe, Jamaican Dancehall artist, TJ Di Hitmaker, and NYC-based Israeli expatriates, Electro Morocco.
The Tug of War Tour is a thought-provoking and multi-dimensional artistic endeavor that explores narratives of conflict and co-existence between Muslims and Jews. The brainchild of Israeli-American M.C. Sneakas and M.C. Serch (of Third Bass fame and VH1’s White Rapper Show), the tour features the controversial rap group ‘Most Hated’ (consisting of Sneakas and Muslim-Iranian rapper Mazzi), in addition to spoken word poets Vanessa Hidary and Tahani Salah (both of whom have been featured on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam).
Be a part of this unique opportunity to see Muslim and Jewish creativity together on one stage on Wednesday, November 11th at SOBs - 204 Varick Street. Doors open at 8pm; tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Stay for the after-party with Diwon spinning.

She studied under the late classical master Isaac Stern and has earned the honor from New York's Apollo Theater as an “Apollo Legend.” She is known as “The Hip Hop Violinist,” the title of her latest album on Universal Records.

Miri Ben-Ari is the CEO and co-founder of Gedenk ("Remember"), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting awareness among young people about the Holocaust.
“Miri’s playing is wonderful, beautiful, exquisite, unpredictable, original and spontaneous.”

Electro Morocco and DJ Balagan
Station 9
1438 U Street NW
June 10, 8:00 pm
Electro Morocco is a unique mixture of intricate electro beats and Middle Eastern flavor, with a retro rock and pop edge. Thriving from the pulse of music born in the Middle East, their sound rises, swells and cuts to the core with a dense recipe of swirling otherworldly sound, the powerful persistence of electro-rock rhythm and stiletto-sharp guitar lines. Electro Morocco delivers soul-stomping performances all synced to self-produced video clips. Seasoned musicians Assaf Spector, Roy Gurel, Shlomie Lavie, Taylor Galassi and Yula Beeri mix everything from retro rock to Middle Eastern folk music, to warped electro in a fierce, high-energy performance.
DJ Balagan a.k.a. Sam Hopkins, has been producing his own sample-based dance tracks since 2003, incorporating Sephardic elements among various other ethnic styles.
“The off-beat rhythm, the interplay of tweaked, Oriental-sounding guitars, and the frenzied climaxes call to mind bellydancing music and hard rock.”

David Krakauer "Klezmer Madness!" With special guest SoCalled
jazz-klezmer-funk

(texte by Rkk Nova).

Boom Pam come to the Museum of Fine Arts on Wednesday 27th June at 7.30pm. Boom Pam first hit the music scene in Tel Aviv in 2004 with their cover of Aris San's 1969 hit "Boom Pam". Since then, the hype surrounding these musicians has boomed. They are an intriguing yet simple mix of electric guitars, drums and tuba. Boom Pam's original music and arrangements of Balkan, Jewish, Greek and Mediterranean songs, seasoned with dueling guitars and a rock attitude.
With this uplifting combination of music, Boom Pam is a band that shouldn't be missed. Members, seniors, students $20; nonmembers, general admission $25.

Further evidence that Latin hip-hop knows no cultural boundaries, Latino-Jewish urban music collective Hip Hop Hoodios will be performing at the Salute to Israel Parade in New York City along Fifth Avenue on Sunday, June 5th. The annual parade is a non-partisan, non-political celebration of the existence of the State of Israel and a tribute to its people and their achievements. One-hundred thousand marchers and close to one-million spectators take part in this event annually. This year marks the first time that a prominent Latin act has been booked to perform at the Parade. Hip Hop Hoodios are currently touring in support of their critically-acclaimed full length debut "Agua Pa' La Gente", which includes members of The Klezmatics, Santana, Midnight Minyan and Jaguares as guests.
The Parade route begins at 57th Street and Fifth Avenue and continues north on Fifth Avenue to 79th Street.
The Parade takes place each year, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM Rain or Shine.

Everyone's favorite Latino-Jewish urban music collective Hip Hop Hoodios are touring in support of their new album "Agua Pa' La Gente", which features as guests members of The Klezmatics, Santana, Midnight Minyan, and Jaguares. The upcoming New Years Eve and Jan. 3rd concerts from Latino-Jewish urban music collective Hip Hop Hoodos promise lots of booty-shaking and laughs alike. Comprised of bilingual musicians from Jewish/Latino backgrounds ("hoodo is a twist on the word "judio" - Spanish for "Jew"), the members of Hip Hop Hoodos are linked by a common love for Latin alternative music, or rock and rap "en Espanol". But don't call these guys the Jewish answer to Tenacious D or the Latino respuesta to the Beastie Boys: Hip Hop Hoodos are out to change the notions and preconceptions of Latin music entirely. Following the groups recent standing room-only concerts at Joes Pub and the Brooklyn Academy of Music (as well as packed dates in Chicago and LA), Los Hoodios perform at Makor in NYC on Saturday, Jan. 3rd, and also have a special New Years Eve date at First Night Montclair in New Jersey.

mixologist DJ Socalled. Working turntables, drum machines, accordion,
piano and vocals (yes, all at once), Socalled mixes strains of jazz, funk

crafts soundscapes of unexpected worlds colliding for a shtetl-fabulous
early khanike (Hanuka in Yiddish) dance party.
Socalled is joined by LA musicians from Critical Brass Band, and Ancestry
