Music for a summer Bandcamp Friday
It's Bandcamp Friday, which means that 100% of the proceeds from anything you purchase from Bandcamp today go straight to the musicians.
Here are some recent reviews that I've posted to help guide you to new music you might not have known that you need to hear - but you do!
- Avi Fox-Rosen / Irena Klepfisz / Di royze aheym / The journey home, 2025 (reviewed 2-Jun-2026) - Fox-Rosen set to music. Irena Klepfisz' poem cycle about her journey with her mother back to Poland in 1983. Just stunningly beautiful artsong, with Irena reading each poem, followed by the music. One of my favorite concerts this year, last week at Jalopy.
- The Sway Machinery / The Dream Past, 2025 (reviewed 2-Jun-2026) - I can't say enough good things about Lockwood's "punk cantorial".
- Mark Rubin / Dispatches: Songs from a world gone mad, 2025 (reviewed 1-Jun-2026) - Not a good time to be Jewish (when is?), but Rubin is paying attention and writing the timely songs we need to hear.
- Michael Winograd plays TANZ! Live in New York City, 2025 (reviewed 1-Jun-2026) - one of the most influential klezmer albums of the '50s, played by a stellar cast of musicians. So good.
- לידער מיט פאלעסטינע \ Lider mit Palestine, 2025 (reviewed 30-Apr-2026) - What happened on 10/7 was terrorism. What has happened since is terror magnified. Here is a chance to to a little mending of the world and to listen to new Yiddish songs that need to be heard.
- Veretski Pass / The Peacock and the Sunflower, 2025 (reviewed 21-Mar-2026) - an album of Ukrainian Jewish music played by one of the great ensembles (with Joel Rubin on clarinet, no less). Think of this as a European version of "Tanz!" - so different, it's a different genre of music entirely, but so joyous.
