Wholesale Klezmer, Amherst, MA, May 9

Vos iz vikhtik? What's important?

Jewish values of charity, social justice, kindness, honesty, helping others to earn a living, peacemaking and learning are the subject matter of a new group of traditional and old-but-updated songs and stories to be featured at the Wholesale Klezmer Band's upcoming concert:

Sunday, May 9th
at the National Yiddish Book Center
on the Campus of Hampshire College
Amherst, Massachusetts

Come at noon for a workshop on What Makes Yiddish Music Jewish presented by clarinetist Sherry Mayrent

for more information see www.bikher.org/+calendar

As is their tradition, the Wholesale Klezmer Band makes Yiddish songs accessible to non-Yiddish-speaking audiences with subtitles, translations, or easy vocabulary lessons. The range of their repertoire includes ballads, satire, children's songs and Jewish liturgy as well as lively dance tunes and soulful music for listening.

The Wholesale Klezmer Band, established in 1982, is based in Western Massachusetts. Their fourth and most recent recording is "Zingen far Sholem, Tantst far Freyd" (Sing for Peace, Dance for Joy).
