The concert will celebrate the newly releasd Tzadik CD, "Pincus & the Pig, a Klezmer Tale," which features Shirim's brilliant klezmer version of Prokofiev's score and Maurice Sendak reading his own ingenious rewrite of Prokofiev's tale. The concert will feature raconteur Fishel Bressler, of Providence, standing in for Mr. Sendak as narrator. The Coolidge will celebrate the occasion by adding Zaftig's deli favorites to their regular theater fare at the snack bar.

"Did you hear of Boychick Pincus, how he opened wide the gate and hippety-hopped over the sweet warm meadow?" So begins Maurice Sendak's charming and hilarious retelling of Prokofiev's classic children's legend "Peter and the Wolf" where Peter has become Pincus and the wolf is Chozzer Pig. Together with the Shirim Klezmer Orchestra, Sendak has created a Jewish tour de force, resonating with Yiddish humor and mysterious subtexts. Years in the making, Pincus and the Pig is a delightfully entertaining romp for the entire family, exploring the deep relationship between Jewish and Russian music, culture and story.

Shirim Klezmer Orchestra features some of Boston's finest instrumentalists: Clarinetist-bandleader Glenn Dickson is joined by trombonist David Harris, pianist Michael McLaughlin, banjo player Brandon Seabrook, drummer Eric Rosenthal, and Jim Gray on tuba.
