Klezmer at Yale, New Haven, CT, Oct 20

Friday night, Oct. 20th, as part of Yale's Institute of Sacred Music's "Sacred Music in Transition" symposium. Concert at 8:00pm in the Center Church on the Green (250 Temple St., New Haven, CT). Admission to the concert, as well as the rest of the symposium, I belived is free of charge.

A short set of klezmer music, old and new to close out the night performed by:
Becky Wexler - clarinet
Mike Perlmutter - baritone saxophone
Jake Weinstein - accordion

Ethnomusicological Perspectives on Religion, Ritual, and Society A 2-day symposium at Yale and at Amherst

Music program includes:

  • A cross-section of Western Christian music performed by the Yale Voxtet, James Taylor, adviser
  • Chanting of Sanskritic mantras by Sheenu Srinivasan and Joseph Getter/li>
  • Indonesian Christian music performed by Marzanna Poplawska and the Wesleyan Javanese Gadhon (Gamelan)/li>
  • Mystical Sufi song with Ney performed by Yusuf Gurtas/li>
  • Klezmer music organized by Institute student Becky Wexler
