Khevre in benefit concert, Cambridge, MA, Oct 7, 2007

7 pm: Esperanza Spalding Duo

Hailed as a prodigy turned rising star on both bass and voice (and performing on both simultaneously!), Esperanza Spalding has performed with Joe Lovano, Pat Metheny, Patti Austin and many other jazz greats, and tours the world with her own groups. Her music combines jazz, latin, pop and other influences in a way that sparkles with originality. You'd pay a lot more to see her next time she's in Boston, so come check it out! 8 pm: Khevre

band photoThe New Jewish Music group Khevre reunites for a performance of klezmer infused with jazz and latin influences. Featuring Michael Winograd, clarinet; Dana Sandler, voice (in Yiddish!); Eylem Basaldi, violin; Carmen Staaf, piano and accordion; Jorge Roeder, bass; and Austin McMahon, drums. Both groups will play for one door price of $15 ($10 for students), and the event will also feature a silent auction, a raffle and refreshments! All proceeds go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org) to fund cancer research and patient support. This is part of a concert series for the same cause; check out the other concert at www.myspace.com/leukemialymphomabenefitconcerts. To pre-pay for tickets online, just go to
www.active.com/donate/ltnbcom/2116_CarmenSStaaf, make a secure online donation of at least $10, and bring a printout of your receipt to the show.
