ABOUT THE EVENING
National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene’s unparalleled success with the long-lost operetta The Golden Bride has inspired us to embark upon a critical research project to identify and restore forgotten works of the Yiddish Theatre canon for the enjoyment of contemporary audiences.

An exclusive preview concert of this rediscovered music will be presented at The Golden Gala, performed by stars of The Golden Bride: Rachel Policar, Cameron Johnson and Adam B. Shapiro. They will be joined by performers Grace Field and Daniel Greenwood and accompanied by a 16-piece orchestra under the baton of Zalmen Mlotek.

The Klezmer Nutcracker—Shirim Klezmer Orchestra, Cambridge, MA, 4 Dec 2016

album coverShirim Klezmer Orchestra perform "The Klezmer Nutcracker"

Sunday, 4 Dec, 3pm
Club Passim,
47 Palmer St.,
Cambridge, MA
617-492-5300

tickets $20/16. Celebrate Chanukah and Christmas all at once! Bring the kids, bring your grandmother! Be ready to move. This is music for the soul.

Shirim’s legendary klezmer rendition of the Nutcracker is a brilliant cross-cultural achievement which is fun, serious and rocking all at once. They distill the classic ballet suite down to its folky essence and will change the way you think of Tchaikovsky forever. Emphasizing the Eastern European elements of the score with witty intelligence and playful irreverence, Shirim redefines the modern melting pot of "world music." Its overwhelming virtuosity in both the performance and musical conception harken back to the manic genius of Spike Jones' classical parodies and the artistry of Ellington's classic transcription.

This family-friendly Sunday afternoon concert will feature the Klezmer Nutcracker, traditional klezmer tunes as well as Yiddish holiday favorites sung by Anneke Reich.

Trio Sefardi, NYC, 17 Dec 2016

Please join us for a wonderful evening celebrating Sephardic music and culture on Saturday December 17. 2016 at the Highland Park Conservative Temple Congregation Anshe Emeth.

At 6:30 PM, a special film, Flory's Flame, will be shown before the concert. This recent documentary produced by two New Jersey filmmakers and shown at venues worldwide, celebrates legendary Sephardic National Heritage Fellow musician Flory Jagoda. Flory's daughter, Betty Murphy will be there to answer questions after the film. We also hope that 93 years young Flory will be able to attend.

At 8:00 PM, Trio Sefardi will celebrate this special Sephardic music with three amazing musicians including Susan Gaeta (vocals, guitar), who apprenticed with Flory Jagoda, Howard Bass (lute, guitar) and Tina Chancey (bowed strings). Trio Sefardi brings a unique perspective to this historic Ladino musical heritage that has been preserved through the efforts of Flory Jagoda and Trio Sefardi.

This year we are thrilled to announce the 2016 ACDIY Awardee, Irena Klepisz, poet, translator, teacher and former colleague, friend and creative collaborator of Adrienne's. In past years, the concert has also served as a fundraiser. Many of you donated generously, over and above the ticket price, to add to the benefit of the whole. This year we are constricted to raising funds outside of the concert, due to our partnership stipulations, so as we go forward we especially need to turn to your enthusiasm and support in a new way.
